Time's up

Representative Bart Stupak (D., Michigan) is invited to the White House today, to witness President Obama’s signing of the Executive Order that declares the new health care reform laws, which leave the Hyde Act unchanged, will not change the Hyde Act.

As a lifelong Michigan resident, I wish I could report that Stupak was 101 years old, or perhaps simply a deaf man.

The signing will be a private event, with -- and here's what I choose to think of as a graceful little “fuck-you” from the Executive Branch -- no news cameras. Which pretty much negates any true interest our representative may've had in attending.

I picture Stupak at his breakfast this morning, his return to obscurity already underway, staring a hole into his oatmeal: “Don’t I have something else today?” he asks his aide. “Haircut, or something?”
