From The Denver Post:
BOULDER — And then there was one. A single black cat — whiskers, ears and fur singed, and nose and paw pads badly burned — is the only domestic animal displaced when wildfire raced through the foothills last week that has not been reunited with its people.
Nicknamed "Sizzle" by veterinary caregivers looking after him, the jet-black kitty with pale green eyes was found hiding under a rock along Post Boy Road on Sugarloaf Mountain. He was taken by Boulder County Animal Control officers to Alpenglow Veterinary Specialty Emergency Center in Boulder on Saturday, where he was put on oxygen for two days to help him recover from smoke inhalation.
He is the only one of the 115 or so dogs and cats displaced by the Fourmile Canyon fire who has not been claimed. Rescued animals were sheltered by the Longmont and Boulder humane societies and at the Boulder County Fairgrounds. "Everyone else that we know of has someone to go home to," said Sara Spensieri, animal control specialist with the Boulder County Sheriff's Office. "Everyone that is, except Sizzle."
