Hi y'all! I'm not sure how much time you have for a visit, but here is one Aspen Summit 2005 (t-shirts available in the gift shop) proposal:
>>Everyone arrives in either Denver or Aspen Sunday, 3 July. Note: The Denver-Aspen leg can be a pricey add-on, but the drive from Denver International to Snowmass Village is about 4 1/2 hours. There is a shuttle available for $79 per person each way at: http://www.ridecme.com/
If there are at least three of you coming into Denver at about the same time, and if I can manage to get out of work that day, I would drive the roundtrip myself. Another option is to fly into Eagle-Vail airport (EGE), a two hour rive from Snowmass Village. Also, I think there are direct fights to Aspen from LA and Minneapolis.
>>Chill at my place Sun pm. Mi casa, su casa. Warning: My casa is not very big.
>>Mon 4 July, venture into Aspen. The parade, at noon-ish, is usually pretty cool. We could spend a few hours exploring the town. That evening, back to Aspen for fireworks and drinks. Anyone for mushrooms?
>>Tues 5 July, shake off your hangovers with some whiskey-spiked coffee and whitewater rafting or downhill mountain-biking - the ski lifts run for free this summer. Assuming I managed a reservation in time, drive to the wood-fueled Margy hut for the evening http://www.huts.org/hut_details/margy_hut_details.html
It's located in one of my favorite areas around here... views of several different ranges of mountains. The cabin is rustic and quaint, perfect for reflection and contemplation 'n' stuff.
>>Wed 6 July, hike from the cabin downhill to Reudi reservoir (it's several miles, but - again - downhill!) Rendezvous with a vehicle there. Drive back to my place, or camp out.
>>Thur and Fri 7-8 July, I may have to work in the am but there are lots of fun things to do on your own during the day. Afterwards I can join you for a concert on the ski hill (free, and only a five minute walk - well, ten minutes for a flatlander - from my apt.) http://www.snowmasslodgingspecials.com/freemusic/index.html
This link has not been updated as of this post, but I'm told Shelby Lynne (alt-country) on Thur, blues legend Charlie Musslewhite on Fri, and then Shawn Colvin on Sat (I may have to work that pm). By Sunday you should probably start looking for a job and your own apartment.
A similar schedule could be worked out for most other weeks thru the summer; it might be easier for me to get out of work during another week, but less excitement for you. Also, the latest I've heard about HST ashes being shot out of a cannon is less than encouraging for a Summit focal point. Check out the events calender at http://www.snowmassvillage.com/ Also, my gal lives with me - there's no avoiding that - so will you want to bring yr significant other?
Out to pasture (Rocky Mountain way),
Bob

Joe here. Now that this site is realizing some potential, I
apologize again for my shoddy work configuring it.
My vote goes to less excitement and more Bob (Bob's own equation) and a late July/early August slot, but if everyone decides on the Fourth I will see you then.
