Longmont man who shot at police claims he thought cop was a zombie

A man who was shot after firing four shots at a Longmont (CO) police officer now claims that he “thought he was being pursued by a zombie.”

According to Boulder District Attorney’s Office reports, on the morning of Saturday, May 8, Longmont police Officer David Blake recognized Brandon Duke, who was wanted on suspicion of a third-degree assault, walking on Main Street.

When confronted by Officer Blake, Duke ran, pulling a .380 caliber semi automatic Kel Tec handgun and taking shots him.

Although Duke got off seven shots, Blake eventually downed him near a row of commercial trucks near Main and Boston Avenue.

At this time, the “Woody Harrelson defense” seems to be part of a larger mental competency ploy.

“At various times he said that he had ‘blacked out’ and could not remember what happened, that he remembered pulling the gun but only to toss it aside, and that he thought he was being chased by a zombie and was only shooting as a warning or to protect himself,” investigators reported.

The district attorney’s review of the shooting determined Blake’s actions were justified.

And just for you would-be felons out there: zombies can’t really utter more than moans and the occasional cry for brains.
