Summit 2007-8 ?

If I keep only my school bus job, I'll have Dec 21-Jan 6 free. D'Arcy and I are considering a road trip down to Copper Canyon, in northern Mexico, for mtn biking, hiking, exploring the Indian villages, and taking the famous train ride. Anyone else interested?

I'm definitely interested. I thought about doing this trip a while ago.

By "road trip" do you mean you plan on driving?

Yes, I propose driving because of bikes, camping equipment, etc. If you wanted to join up with us you could fly to Grand Junction, CO, or Albuquerque, NM, or El Paso, TX, or ?

The best season for this is probably fall, when Mexico is at the end of its wet season and foliage is greened up, but that idea didn't work out for me this year. A winter trip might be folly - D'Arcy claims that last year Creel was snowed in around that time. I'll need to do more research.

It's about 2.5 hrs SV to Grand Junction, 11.5 hrs more to El Paso (according to google maps), I'd guess 4 hrs more to Chihuahua. That's 18 hrs so far and then... into feral country.

Or, one day's driving (10 hrs) to Santa Fe, perhaps a day spent there, one day's driving to Chihuahua, another day to Creed (with plenty of daylight to spare, I'm guessing).

It sounds great, but I can't make it.

What are the likely dates of the trip?

What, Stoner doesn't dig Mexico?

And where is the Marquis? I think he's in desparate need of a trip south of the border. Chihuahua is the next best thing to Tijuana.

And Rex Robotto would be a hit with the Mexican children. He's got the gear to protect him from the rocks that will be thrown at him.

The entire trip would require most of my available days (see main post) because of the 3-4 days driving to/from. BTW, D'Arcy checked SF - El Paso flights the other day: $250 or $280 (she couldn't remember which). Via El Paso, figure on approx Dec 24 - Jan 3. That's 11 days for you, with roughly 4-5 of those relegated to driving to/from Creel.
