This album got me from the opening line of the opening song "Clowns": "Only clowns will play with those balloons". I have no idea what it's all about. All I know is that Alison Goldfrapp seems to inhabit that same majestic place beyond irony as Stevie, where the line between coolness and dorkiness disappears--what we mortals might call "heaven".
If you're wondering whether that pirate outfit is a joke, you're asking the wrong question, my friend.
