
With the "mother of all storms" having gone from tropical menace to entropic footnote, I've had some time for sight-seeing in Houston.
This historical monument sits just outside my hotel.
Raising a more urgent question than it answers, it marks the former site of Houston's first parking garage.
Then, this unexpected dab of local color and context: "The first gasoline automobile appeared on Houston streets at the beginning of the 20th century. Houstonians embraced this innovative mode of transportation."
