I caught a great show in Denver last week. DeLeon, normally a five-piece, played as a duo (Dan Saks on guitar/banjo/vocals and the hauntingly beautiful Amy Crawford on vibraphone(?)/crazy lung-powered keyboard/vocals) interpreting fifteenth-century Spanish folksongs and the like. They were fantastic. Os Mutantes, reunited after a thirty-year break, and after recently releasing a critically-acclaimed new album, followed. They were great, especially the now-very-jowly Sergio Dias Baptista, dressed in a bizarre priestly mu mu, who played the most awesome, melodic guitar solos I can remember hearing. And I've never seen a band appear happier to perform. Rex, check out their very Beatle-esque Balada Do Louco. Stoner, they play tomorrow night (Sep 29) at the Magic Stick. Check'em out, and drag along Le Marquis.
