The Human Genome

I recall reading somewhere that there is about 1% difference between the human genome and that of a chimp, and that this is less than the range of variation within the human race itself. Well, a new study of southern Africans has revealed, among other things, that "...any two Bushmen [longtime hunter-gatherers who represent the oldest known lineage of modern humans] in their study who spoke different languages were more different genetically than a European and an Asian. That was true even if the Bushmen lived within walking distance of each other."
