Two of the three non-jazz albums of the year are by bands with "black" in their names, but neither one is the Black Keys. "Brothers" is my album pick of 2010. Your sports pick for the year is beyond reproach. Best comeback of 2010: The Detroit Lions?
I never bought "Brothers".
These lists are an exercise in futility, of course. I forgot to list Winter's Bone, for example, maybe the best movie I saw last year...
Winter's Bone was one of my favorites, as well. (I posted about it a while back.) Another recent film I'd recommend, with a similar theme (though displaced Down Under), is "Animal Kingdom."
I didn't listen to much music this year but three albums stick out in my memory: Aloe Blacc's "Good Things," Mavis Staples' "You Are Not Alone," and "Doc At the Radar Station," which I explored only after Captain Beefheart's passing.
