This major cheating scandal may be a bigger story than doping in cycling and steroid use in baseball. Four championships forfeited because of cheating! Yet I don't see Reuters covering the story. Why the silence, Marquis?
"The Harvard revelations surfaced in a probe that also found cheating by competitors from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, University of Michigan and a high school in Delaware."
I trust that no one reading this blog will be shocked to learn that, back in the day, I was a member of the Caesar Rodney Senior High academic bowl team. Thus having some familiarity with the Delaware quiz bowl scene, I was not surprised to read in the L.A. Times that the Delaware school in question is The Charter School of Wilmington.
(For those not familiar with the geography of the First State, Wilmington is in New Castle, the northernmost county, whereas I was raised in Kent, which is in the middle.)
It is a well-established fact that Delawareans from the north can be more than a little snooty to those of us from "below the canal." So, as far as I'm concerned, the little buggers from Wilmington deserve whatever punishment is meted out. I am quite certain they had it coming.
An appropriate punishment would be for the State of Delaware to rename the school The Cheater School of Wilmington forever, or, if you're feeling less generous, the Wilmington School for Snooty, Prissy Buggers. I'm trying to envision what the mascot will look like.
I'm slowly cleaning up the archives to make searching easier, e.g., combining all Deep Blues years into one tag, all Summit years into one, etc., and eliminating other tags that are not useful. (Uhmm... "Grover Cleveland"?)
