Bright Spot in Gruesome Year

Brought to U.S. television, Idol produces -- Clay Aiken? I don't know. Ruben somebody? In the UK they came up with Duffy.

Duffy is the Dinah Washington to Amy Winehouse's Billie Holiday; when she claims you have her begging for mercy, it's difficult not to feel that she's just trying to prop up your fragile male ego.

Picked up in the spring, Rockferry, sounding like thirty minutes of lost-and-found Bacharach, has never left my car.

Recommended: listen in rotation with Scott Biram's Graveyard Shift.

Next month: Scandinavian Death Metal. I promise.
