I apologize for not commenting earlier - I haven't been to the Clock in awhile.
I was unfamiliar with "Black-Eyed Dog" - apparently it was one of the last songs Drake recorded before taking his own life. It is powerful, and I love it. Thanks, rocky!
I wouldn't say Hannigan's version incorporates the spirit of dance as much as she plays it as a trance-like death spiral into oblivion. Semantics?
"Northern Sky" - meh. I appreciate your conciliatory thought, but I'd enjoy the song more without the piano. And the "northern sky" he references is his English sky - overcast and dreary; it's the "you" he addresses in lyric that brightens the mood. When will you visit me, rocky, and brighten my Rocky Mountain sky?
Regarding Swedish exports: I'll stick with Ingmar Bergman, lingonberry jam, and blond masseuses.
"When will you visit me, rocky, and brighten my Rocky Mountain sky?" asks the master ironist.
I'll meet you in the desert when it's in bloom.
